2 Corinthians 10:3-5 - “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
Principles of “winning the war.”
1. Your three parts are in constant warfare:
- “For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being (spirit), but I see in my members (body) another law waging war against the law of my mind (soul) and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members” (Romans 7:22-23, ESV)
- You ARE a spirit. You HAVE a mind. You LIVE in a body, your flesh.
2. There are three ways to answer arguments:
- Romans 8:5—“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
- Speak the Word out loud so you hear it—“Faith comes by hearing…”
- Praise from your spirit. Praise activates the power of your Spirit to clear and reset your mind.
- Pray from your Spirit, not just your mind.
(1) “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27).
(2) We can pray with our mind (English) or spirit (prayer in a heavenly language). It is perfect prayer that is in God's perfect will.
3. Love in your spirit overcomes fear in your mind.
- “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!’ ” (Romans 8:15)
- Fear and worry is a lie sent to rob us of our peace. “If you are thinking about it, you are worrying about it.”
- You belong to God. You are His heir, joint-heirs with Christ, seated in heavenly places with Christ.
